Purcell designed these houses from Portland, Oregon, in partnership with his former Purcell and Elmslie draftsman Frederick Strauel, who still lived in Minneapolis. They are part of a larger group (nine in all) that were designed and built as speculative housing, meaning they were planned and constructed with no client in mind. They are Purcell's interpretation of the period revival styles popular at the time-basically suggestive of English Tudor-although their layouts reflect his characteristic attention to function. next stop > |
