Table lamp, c. 1900

H. 13 x W. 7 (at base) in.

French sculptor Raoul-François Larche designed at least four versions of this lamp showing the American dancer Löie Fuller. In each, the figure is at a different stage in her dance, her body engulfed by the swirling folds of her gown. This one is the most celebrated of the four. Here, she holds her arms outstretched as draperies whirl around her to form a suspended canopy, where a small, unobtrusive light bulb is hidden.
