A leading American designer, Louis Comfort Tiffany devoted his career to the production of glassware and stained glass windows and lamps. He also was one of the first to eliminate the distinction between the fine arts and the decorative arts. While his studios made innumerable lamps based on botanical designs, this lotus leaf pattern, called Mandarin, is remarkable for its refinement of form and abstract quality.
