The youngest member of a group of American industrial designers who emerged in the late 1920s, Russel Wright is best known for his 1939 ceramic dinnerware called American Modern. Wright recognized that the Depression would lead to more informal home entertaining. To that end, he created a wide range of industrially produced furniture, tablewares, and utensils sturdy enough for extensive use. His earliest designs were for metalwares, with aluminum and pewter being his chosen materials. This cocktail set ingeniously incorporates a shaker and six cups into its reductive machine-made design.
