Mantel clock, c. 1902

H. 13 1/2 x W. 7 1/2 x D. 3 3/4 in.

Originally from the Isle of Man, Archibald Knox knew a great deal about Celtic art and ornamentation. He based this mantle clock on a Celtic cross, giving it raised Roman numerals and abalone shell inlays. Knox helped develop several lines of decorative metalwork for the London retailer Liberty & Company, including several Celtic Revival pieces in pewter.
