German Bauhaus objects are characterized by their simple forms, clean lines, and inexpensive materials. A superb example of pure Bauhaus design, this adjustable table lamp is the only work by Christian Dell in an American collection. Dell held the position of Master Craftsman at the Dessau metal workshop, and the shape of the modern office light was largely developed by him. This work’s austere geometrical form and mechanized appearance remain the hallmarks of mass-produced industrial design to this day.
