Boch Frères Keramis, manufacturer (Belgium)
Monumental vase, c. 1925
H. 33 1/2 x Dia. 18 in.
In Belgium, the firm of Boch Frères vigorously adopted the Art Deco style for its ceramics. One of their principal designers was Charles Catteau, who was the maker of this monumental vase. It was featured in the Belgian section of the 1925 Paris Exposition and like many of Catteau’s other works consists of a simple ovoid form with a white crackle glaze. Catteau used his favorite enamel colors—blues, blacks, and reddish browns—for the stylized flowers that cascade down its surface.
