Pokal (Covered presentation cup), c. 1910
H. 12 x W. 3 3/8 (at base) in.
This presentation cup was undoubtedly commissioned for a special occasion, probably a ceremony of some sort. An example of German Art Nouveau (Jugendstil), it is symmetrical in design and far more restrained in style than French Art Nouveau objects. Like many European silversmiths, its maker Franz Böres started his career as a jewelry designer.
