Larsen: a living archive - Printed Velvets - InteriorLarsen is renowned for the sumptuous printed velvets they produced in the 1960s and 1970s.

Intensity of color was the essential ingredient to achieving the full effect of these designs. This quality is very difficult to achieve on a velvet fabric because the surface pile tends to interfere with penetration of the dye.

It took considerable time to develop a short, dense pile that was suitable for upholstery, yet open enough that the dye could penetrate to the base of the pile.

Velvets also require a secure construction to ensure that the surface is not altered during the dye process or in use.
